Steps of Passage
Growing up in Iran amongst architects inspired in me a passion for architecture. There, I found a history and meaning, and fell in love with one particular form: the staircase.
For the last 3 years, I have travelled the world visiting extraordinary buildings in order to search out staircases. Each photograph tells a story about the staircase and the emotions it evokes, sometimes mysterious, sometimes beckoning.
Ancient or modern, staircases are a passage, from one level to another; a corridor of experiences we are passing through. At times we are going towards heaven, light and wisdom. Other times descending toward the dark and unknown. Our passage is a simple as a single step or as complex as a helix. These are the paths my photographs trace.
